Three years after the late-night TV talk show host Jimmy Kimmel won the Oscar, the world’s greatest movie award show will finally show a face when the event airs on March 27 on the American TV network, ABC.

Craig Erwich, President, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, according to Variety, made the announcement during the ABC segment of the Television Critics Association Virtual Press Tour. However, he did not elaborate on who might be involved. Before speaking of his confidence in Will Packer, Oscar’s executive producer, Erwich quipped, “It could be me.”

“He will really have his pulse on popular culture and entertainment,” Erwich said. “I know he has a lot more and we’ll have more details to share soon.”

Jimmy Kimmel served as the last host of the Academy Awards, dropping the show in 2017 and 2018, noting ‘Variety’. Other hosts over the past decade include Chris Rock (2016), Neil Patrick Harris (2015), Ellen DeGeneres (2014), Seth McFarlane (2013), Billy Crystal (2012) and James Franco / Anne Hathaway (2011).

The stunts by McFarlane and Franco / Hathaway were seen as a bid to attract a younger audience to ABC and Academy, but were not impressed by the critics.

Hosting the Oscars was once considered the most enticing gig Hollywood (Especially in the era of Bob Hope and Johnny Carson), according to ‘Variety’, but in the age of social media and on the stage, the job was considered more grateful for the endless criticism of those on it.

The real finale of the Oscar host line, however, came in 2019, when the Academy announced Kevin Hart in the role. Hart later decides to drop out when the organization asks him to apologize for the year-old homophobic Tweet; Since then, the 2019 event has become hostless and in fact its ratings have increased compared to the previous year.
