Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet have decided to go their separate ways after being married for almost five years and after 16 years of relationship. In a joint statement shared today on the Instagram account of the 42-year-old Game Of Thrones and Aquaman star, announced that he is parting ways with the 54-year-old Cosby Show actress.
“We share our family news that we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it is newsworthy, but so that, as we go about our lives we can do so with dignity and honesty,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the rupture occurred as a result of the changes that have affected the world in this harsh time of the Covid-19 pandemic, and that were resented by the family: “We have all felt the pressure and the changes of these transformation times.
“A revolution is unfolding and our family is no exception … feeling and growing from the seismic changes that are taking place”, they elaborated. The couple’s post also included several meditative photos, though they did not explain their connection to the separation announcement.
In one image you can see a beautiful peach-colored sunset, in which you could already see a crescent moon shining in the sky. Another photo showed poles erected outside that appeared to be decorated with rectangular strips of white fabric covered with small black text.
Two more photos appeared showing two people holding small birds in their palms. The figures were allegedly representing the couple’s children. Bonet also had her daughter Zo Kravitz, 33, from a previous relationship with her ex-husband Lenny Kravitz. Lisa and the singer eloped in 1987, but later divorced in 1993.
How did Momoa and Bonet fall in love?
In 2019, Momoa told Esquire that he had been obsessed with Bonet during his stint on the Cosby Show when he was young: “I mean, I didn’t tell him that. I didn’t let him know he was a stalker until after we had the kids. If someone says something is not possible, I say, ‘Listen, I married Lisa Bonet. Anything is possible.
Kravitz would later confirm that he continued to have a strong friendship with his ex-wife and with Momoa. In 2018, Lisa described her first meeting with Jason at a jazz club in 2004 for Porter magazine: “I can’t say it was complete from the moment we met, but we’ve been together since the day we met.”
